Rebecca Frank (Bewitching Book Covers) is a solo book cover designer specializing in Urban Fantasy, Romantasy, Paranormal Romance, Cozy Fantasy, Dark Fantasy, fairytale retellings and sci-fi. Her work has appeared on New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestseller lists.

What You Get#

Three packages, and the axis is whether the cover shows people — not budget:

• Single Ebook Cover, no characters ($1,199): One ebook front cover, up to 3 revisions. The cover "cannot include human or human-like characters."
• Single Ebook Cover, with characters ($1,999): Same, plus up to two characters; additional characters are $150 each. For romantasy and PNR — genres where a figure on the cover is close to a market convention — this is the realistic entry price, not $1,199.
• Trilogy Bundle ($3,599, advertised as a "$4272 Value"): 3 ebook covers (no characters), 3 revisions each, 3 print-ready paperback designs, 3 audiobook covers and 1 3D box-set mockup. At ~$1,200 per cover it is her cheapest per-cover route, with print and audio effectively free — the headline figure is a volume deal, not a premium tier.

Covers are a mix of custom illustration, 3D work (Blender, Daz3D) and licensed Shutterstock stock, finished in Photoshop and/or Procreate.

Print is not included in the base fee. The single-cover packages buy the ebook front cover only; everything else is a published add-on:

Licensing is a priced ladder, and the default keeps copyright with her. The Standard License included in every package covers use as your book cover and related marketing only — "ownership of the work and copyright remains with me."

• Commercial License (+50% of the base package): merchandise for sale.
• Worldwide License (+50%): all formats, translations and editions, so audiobook or foreign-edition publishers need not license separately. She notes it is unnecessary for most self-publishing.
• Copyright Transfer (+100%): full rights including alterations and derivative works; she retains only portfolio display.

On the $1,999 tier a copyright transfer is another $1,999, so full ownership of a character cover is ~$3,998. Covers built on stock images may still need extra stock licences at the author's expense under the Commercial and Transfer options.

Who It's For#

• Fantasy and romantasy authors at the premium tier: the pricing assumes a serious commercial release, not a debut on a shoestring.
• Authors whose readers care about no-AI: her policy is unusually specific about supply chain, not just process (below).
• Series authors: the trilogy bundle is the best value on the page, and it is the only place print and audiobook covers come bundled.
• Special-edition authors: she has produced editions for Fairyloot and The Bookish Box, plus individual authors; foiling and sprayed edges are quoted case by case.

Strengths#

• Bestseller-credentialed portfolio: NYT/USA Today/WSJ author covers, and subscription-box work in the two boxes that matter most in romantasy.
• A no-AI policy that addresses the stock libraries, not just her own hands: "I never use AI in my artwork at any stage of my art process." She goes further than most — noting that Shutterstock now sells AI-generated images, she says she never buys AI assets and avoids unlabelled stock "that seems suspicious." That contamination step is what separates a real no-AI guarantee from a marketing line.
• Published revision, deposit and licensing terms: three revision rounds, a 10% deposit and a four-tier rights ladder are all on the site, which is rarer among solo designers than it should be.
• Informal instalments: no payment plan runs during a project, but you can book a start date months out and pay it down gradually — balance due the day before work begins. A genuine route into a $1,999 cover for an author who cannot pay it at once.
• Fast first draft: once your start date arrives, the first draft lands within three days.

Limitations#

• Premium-only pricing: $1,199 excludes most debut and budget-tier indie authors, and a character cover starts at $1,999.
• The cheap tier excludes the thing the genre expects: no humans or human-like figures at $1,199. Read that constraint before treating it as her floor.
• Long lead time: the cover process runs 4–6 weeks, and she books roughly 2–3 months ahead. Print covers need a further 2–3 weeks' notice and are not started until you have a final page count — changes after that carry a $25 fee.
• Copyright is not yours by default, and buying it doubles the price.
• Revisions stop at approval: three rounds during the draft stage, then no major changes or concept shifts once final painting begins; extra rounds may be billed.
• Booking is time-boxed: order form, contract and questionnaire must all be returned within 7 days or the slot can be released, and the 10% deposit is non-refundable.
• An abandoned predecessor site is still live and still indexed. bookcovers.rebeccafrank.design serves her 2014–2019 site at HTTP 200, and search results surface its shop and photography pages as if current. It advertises premades at $35–$55 (2015 gallery) and "$225-295" (2018 pricing FAQ), plus a 2019 ladder running to $3,625 — none of it real. Nothing on it has been touched since November 2019. • Premades are newsletter-only, with no catalog and no published price. The current site's /shop/ page says premades "often sell FAST" and points to her newsletter, but it is not in the navigation, lists no products, and the store plugin is inactive — so there is no browsable premade shelf to price or shop. Treat her as custom-only unless you are on the list.
• No spiders. She declines cover projects featuring them.
