Revision Policy
Unlimited reasonable revisions to the one chosen concept while the project is active; post-approval changes are quoted separately

Strengths

  • Independent recognition: Repeat wins at TheBookDesigner.com's cover contest, and an ALLi Partner Member badge published on Ebook Launch's own site rather than only claimed in marketing copy.
  • The revision process is documented, not just advertised: The help centre spells out what counts as a "reasonable" revision, how many concepts you get, and what happens if none of them land — most studios leave all three unstated.
  • Trustpilot: 4.6/5 from 33 reviews — reviewers highlight clear communication, adherence to timelines, and willingness to iterate. (Trustpilot blocks direct fetching; this figure comes from its indexed page and was unchanged from the previous check.)
  • Two design tracks: Photo manipulation is the default, but hand illustration is offered where the genre suits it, with a sketch approval step before the artwork is rendered.

Limitations

  • Generative AI is used by default, and opting out is on you. Ebook Launch's Terms of Service reserve the right to build covers from "generative AI images" alongside stock and illustration, chosen at the studio's "sole judgment" when the client gives no direction. Clients can opt out — but only by typing it into the order form's free-text comments box or emailing separately, because the form has no AI question and the policy appears nowhere outside the Terms. Authors in genres where AI imagery is a liability must know to ask.
  • The money-back guarantee has conditions the marketing doesn't mention. Per the Terms: refund requests must be in writing, within 30 days of files being sent for review, and are "subject to our evaluation" — and if a refund is granted, Ebook Launch "will retain all rights and ownership of any copyrights and original artwork" produced. On hand-illustrated covers, only 50% is refundable once the project passes the sketch phase.
  • "Unlimited revisions" is bounded by the active project. Only the one concept you select gets revised, and only with changes that stay within the original brief, don't substantially alter the concept, and can be done from existing stock. Once you approve, further changes are quoted and billed.
  • You can be dropped after three concepts. If no concept works by the third attempt, the help centre says Ebook Launch "may choose to end the project and refer you to another designer."
  • Source files are a $49 add-on, not a deliverable. The layered PSD must be bought separately after delivery, the download link expires within about a week, and font licences are never transferred — only the font names. Copyright transfers to you on full payment, but Ebook Launch keeps a non-exclusive portfolio/marketing right and owns outright every concept you didn't pick.
  • Print covers are locked to their own front covers: Ebook Launch won't wrap a cover it didn't design, needs a separate paid file for each POD platform (KDP and IngramSpark differ), and can't put text on a spine for books under 100 pages.
  • Upsell pressure noted: At least one reviewer reports feeling pushed toward add-on formatting and editing services beyond the requested cover work.

Ebook Launch has been designing covers for indie authors since 2011, operating as a family business from British Columbia, Canada. John Low founded it with his sons Adrian and Dane after helping his own father publish in 2009. The studio displays an Alliance of Independent Authors Partner Member badge on its About page, is a listed service provider for Smashwords, and has won multiple entries in The Book Designer's monthly cover contest. Endorsements come from Mark Coker (Smashwords), Joel Friedlander (TheBookDesigner.com), Derek Murphy (Creativindie) and Dave Chesson (Kindlepreneur).

What You Get

  • Premade ebook cover — $99: Exclusive (retired from the gallery once sold), your title and author name applied, minor colour/text tweaks, two 3D mockups; delivered within 2 business days of payment. 143 designs were live at last check, filterable across fantasy, romance, sci-fi, mystery/thriller, horror, fiction and non-fiction. Add a print wrap for $149.
  • Custom ebook cover — $497: Two concepts within 14 business days of payment, then 2–7 business days of revisions on the one concept you pick. JPG, 1600×2560, RGB, 72 DPI — front cover only, no spine or back.
  • Ebook + print cover — $595: Adds the full paperback wrap (front, spine, back) as a CMYK 300 DPI print-ready PDF, with a barcode generated from your ISBN.
  • Series discount: $50 off each additional cover after the first.
  • 3D marketing mockups: Two included free with every cover — one on a wood background, one transparent.
  • Stock imagery included: Sourced from Shutterstock; no separate image fees unless you request an image from a library Ebook Launch doesn't subscribe to.

Add-ons (order form prices): Paperback cover $149 · Hardcover for KDP $75 · Hardcover for IngramSpark $75 · Dust jacket for IngramSpark $75 · Boxset cover $125 · Audiobook cover $59 · Promotional mockup pack, 21 images $99 · A+ Content banner $75 · Bookmark $59 · Facebook cover $49 · Web banner $49 · Photoshop (PSD) source file $49 · Title page $29. Hardcover, dust jacket and boxset work is only sold to authors whose paperback (or series) Ebook Launch designed.

Who It's For

  • Authors testing a budget before committing: The $99 premade line puts Ebook Launch's own design work within reach of a first book, and it's the same studio you can graduate to for custom work later.
  • Series authors: The $50 per-book series discount and the $125 boxset cover give a multi-book brand one consistent source.
  • Print and hardcover publishers: The wrap, hardcover, dust jacket and barcode pipeline is unusually complete for a studio this size.

Pricing: $99 premade; $497 custom ebook cover; $595 custom ebook + paperback wrap. Series covers discounted $50 each after the first. Payment is in USD, in full, in advance — an invoice arrives within 2 business days of the order form, and work starts only once it clears. Order the print wrap up front and it costs $100; order it after the ebook cover is approved and it costs $149 — the order form states the $49 penalty in so many words.

Alternatives

For lower-budget custom covers, GetCovers ($10–$35) delivers professionally designed custom covers with strong Trustpilot reviews and a 4-day turnaround. Creativindie Covers now undercuts Ebook Launch's custom floor at $349 and carries a 365-day redesign warranty. Authors who specifically need a no-AI guarantee rather than an opt-out should look at Deranged Doctor Design, TS95 Studios or The Cover Collection, all of which market the policy publicly. On the premade side, The Book Cover Designer and BookCoverZone both sell exclusive designs from far deeper catalogues than 143 covers.
