Pricing: Free to launch. New creators who published after August 4, 2025 pay a flat 10% platform fee plus 2.9% + $0.30 per payment for processing (PayPal/Venmo outside the US is 3.9% + $0.30). Existing creators on pre-August 2025 plans (Lite 5%, Pro 8%, Premium 12%) are grandfathered — but the legacy rate is lost permanently if the page is unpublished and later republished, which reverts it to the standard 10%. Legacy billing accounts must migrate to subscription billing by November 1, 2026. First payout may take up to 30 days; subsequent payouts process weekly.

Strengths#

• Weak internal discovery: Authors must drive all traffic from external platforms (social media, newsletters, book back matter); Patreon's internal recommendation features are limited
• Not built for fiction: No native e-reader, no chapter scheduling, and no genre-specific community discovery — general-creator design shows when running a serialized fiction operation
• Payout timing: First payout delayed up to 30 days; weekly batch processing thereafter (not instant transfers)

Alternatives#

Ream Stories offers the same 10% fee with fiction-specific tools — an in-platform e-reader, chapter scheduling, and romance/fantasy genre communities. Ko-fi charges 0% on tips and 5% on monthly memberships, making it more cost-effective at lower income volumes.
