Dragon Anywhere

Discontinued July 1, 2026: Nuance ended sales and renewals of Dragon Anywhere. Both app stores carry the same first-party notice — "As of July 1, 2026, Dragon Anywhere Mobile is no longer available for sale. Purchasing new subscriptions and renewing existing subscriptions is no longer possible." The marketing page at dragon.nuance.com is still live but lists no price and offers no purchase button. This listing is preserved for reference.

Dragon Anywhere was Nuance's mobile dictation app for iOS and Android, and the only way to carry a Dragon custom vocabulary onto a phone. It ran continuous dictation with no length cap, synced word lists and auto-texts with Dragon Professional on the desktop, and accepted the same voice commands ("new paragraph," "bold that") desktop Dragon users already knew. It sold in the US and Canada only, at $14.99/month or $149.99/year via in-app purchase.

What Happened#

• 2022: Microsoft completed its acquisition of Nuance; Dragon's consumer line entered maintenance mode.
• 2023: Dragon Home was discontinued and Dragon Professional v16 shipped as the last planned desktop release.
• June 26, 2026: Final Android update.
• July 1, 2026: End of sale — new subscriptions and renewals stopped.
• July 10, 2026: Final iOS update (v1.96.1).

The enterprise variant's page (dragon-anywhere-group.html) now 301-redirects to Microsoft's health-solutions landing page. Dragon's remaining development is concentrated in healthcare products, not consumer or author dictation.

If You Still Have a Subscription#

Neither the product page nor the support site documents what happens to active subscriptions. The notice covers purchasing and renewal only — no service-shutdown date is published anywhere, and the apps remain installed and downloadable. Dictation was cloud-processed with no offline mode, so the app stops working the day Nuance turns the servers off. Export anything you still need now rather than waiting for an announcement.

What It Offered#

• Continuous dictation: No time cap on a single session, unlike the short windows in built-in phone dictation.
• Custom vocabulary sync: Word lists and auto-texts synced with desktop Dragon Professional — the main reason authors with series-specific character and place names paid for it.
• Voice commands: The desktop Dragon command set, plus custom shortcuts that inserted boilerplate text.
• Export targets: Evernote (iOS), Dropbox, email, and clipboard.

Ratings collapsed as the product stagnated: 2.6/5 from 726 ratings on the App Store, 1.5/5 from 944 on Google Play. It required iOS 14 or later, and never matched desktop Dragon's accuracy.

Alternatives#

Wispr Flow is the closest replacement for Android users — free up to 2,000 words/week on desktop and 1,000/week on iPhone with unlimited Android dictation, then $15/month or $144/year. Superwhisper runs $8.49/month or about $85/year across Mac, Windows, and iOS, but has no Android app, so it is not a like-for-like swap. Both use modern Whisper-class models that need no voice training, which is what removed Dragon's custom-vocabulary advantage well before the shutdown. Authors with large desktop profiles should see Dragon Professional Individual — never formally discontinued, but Nuance has stopped selling it directly and it is now reseller-only.
