KDP Miner

KDP Miner is a fully free Chrome extension (version 2.5.3, last updated September 2025) that brings live Amazon data directly onto the page you are already browsing — no separate dashboard or tab switching required. Its Cover Previewer is the only free tool in the KDP research space that lets you place your own cover into real Amazon search results to evaluate how it competes at thumbnail scale.

How Flash Mode Works#

Clicking the Flash Analysis button on any Amazon or Audible search results page overlays data directly onto each listing within seconds. Per book, you see live BSR (Best Seller Rank), review count, publisher name, and publication date. The extension also shows page-level averages across all results displayed.

This is live data scraped from Amazon — not estimated or modeled — so it reflects actual current rankings. What Flash Mode does not show: estimated monthly search volume, competition scores, or revenue estimates. Authors who need to know how often a keyword is actually searched need a tool with a proprietary keyword database, such as Publisher Rocket.

How the Cover Previewer Works#

Upload a .PNG or .JPG of your cover image. The extension inserts it into an Amazon search results page at a position you choose — slot 1, 5, or 10 in the results — so you can see exactly how your thumbnail looks alongside competing books currently ranking for that keyword. There is no AI, no design feedback, no mockup generator — it is a direct visual comparison at the size buyers actually see. No paid competitor (Publisher Rocket, KDSpy, Helium 10) offers this functionality.

• On the Fly mode: Select any text on any website, right-click, and send it to KDP Miner for background analysis. The extension icon turns green while working and plays a notification sound when complete.
• SRRS (Smart Relevance Recognition System): A toggleable filter that automatically flags whether books in a search result are genuinely relevant to the keyword searched — reduces manual filtering of false positives.
• Batch analysis: Analyze up to 45 keywords simultaneously with Excel export.
• Audible analysis: Works on Audible search results pages, not just Amazon books.
• International coverage: US, UK, DE, FR, ES, IT, CA, AU, IN, SG, AE Amazon stores; works in incognito mode.

Limitations#

• No estimated search volume — the single most important gap. KDP Miner shows what is ranking (BSR), but not how many people search for a keyword per month. Publisher Rocket provides estimated monthly searches; KDP Miner cannot.
• No competition scores, no revenue estimates — profitability assessment requires authors to set their own thresholds rather than relying on a scored metric
• Known bug on Amazon Italy — Amazon.it uses periods as thousands separators (e.g., 8.444 means eight thousand four hundred forty-four). KDP Miner misreads the period as a decimal, displaying a BSR of 8.444 as simply 8. This corrupts profitability calculations for the Italian marketplace and was unfixed through v2.5.3.
• Intermittent failures after Amazon page changes — scraper-based extensions break when Amazon updates its HTML structure; the developer patches reactively
• Solo developer (contact: [email protected]) — continuity depends on one person maintaining the extension
• Minimal community validation — 9,000+ installs but only 13 Chrome Web Store reviews; not covered by major indie author authority sites

Alternatives#
