Strengths

  • Done-for-you expert interpretation — the video seminar format distinguishes K-lytics from raw data tools; Newton explains what the numbers mean, not just what they are
  • Endorsed by major indie author educators — recommended by Mark Dawson's Self Publishing Formula, Author Media, Indie Author Magazine, and others

Limitations

  • Amazon Kindle only — no data for wide publishing, audiobooks, or print
  • Static reports — not interactive software; you cannot query on demand or filter dynamically between updates
  • Significant cost for ongoing access — Elite at $97/month is a meaningful commitment that requires a clear use case to justify

K-lytics is a market intelligence service — not software — built specifically for the Amazon Kindle book market. Founded by Alex Newton, a former Fortune 500 management consultant based in Stuttgart, Germany, K-lytics applies corporate-grade research methodology to indie publishing. Every report is personally compiled and narrated by Newton, delivered as polished PDF documents accompanied by 45-minute video seminars where he explains what the data means and what authors should do about it.

What You Get

Each major genre report is a two-document package. The 60-page Category Report breaks down 100 to 170 or more Amazon subcategories within a genre, covering five to seven years of trend data, market entry difficulty scores, e-book supply growth, pricing patterns, and a visual "Book Strategy Map" showing attractive versus saturated niches. Cover art evolution and niche momentum data are also included.

The 56-page Top-100 Bestseller Analysis covers what makes top performers succeed: typical word counts, top author and publisher patterns, keyword frequency in titles and blurbs, Kindle Unlimited versus wide performance splits, and series versus standalone breakdowns. The 45-minute video seminar is Newton personally walking through the findings — done-for-you interpretation, not a raw data export.

Membership plans provide monthly updated market intelligence and access to a database covering up to 7,700 subcategories at the Elite tier.

Who It Is For

  • Authors deciding which genre to write into — K-lytics answers the question "where should my next book live in the market?" before you commit to writing it
  • Writing-to-market authors building a multi-book series who need to understand genre demand, sub-genre saturation, and competitor positioning before investing significant time
  • Authors changing genres or pen names who need a baseline understanding of a new market before entering it

K-lytics is best used at the pre-writing strategy stage. Publisher Rocket, by contrast, is best used at launch day for keyword and Amazon Ads optimization. Community consensus among active indie authors is to use both for different phases: K-lytics for genre strategy, Publisher Rocket for metadata execution.

Coverage and Limitations

K-lytics covers the Amazon Kindle store exclusively. Data on Kobo, Apple Books, Barnes and Noble, Google Play, Audible, or any other retailer is not included. Print sales data is not tracked. Authors publishing wide — distributing beyond Amazon — will find limited applicability here.

K-lytics is not a real-time query tool. Data is collected over multi-week observation windows and released monthly, designed to surface sustained market patterns rather than algorithm-driven hourly rank fluctuations. There are no live searches, no competitor keyword lookups, and no AMS keyword export.

Pricing

Individual genre reports (Romance, Sci-Fi and Fantasy, Mystery Thriller Suspense, Horror, Domestic Thrillers, and others) are $47 each with permanent access — no subscription required. Each includes the two PDF reports and the video seminar. No free trial; no refund policy was found on product pages.

Membership subscriptions: Premium at $37/month covers 30 main categories and 450 subcategories with monthly PDF updates and an interactive data tool. Elite at $97/month expands coverage to 7,750+ sub-subcategories and adds special topic reports and VIP support. An annual Elite Pass at $497/year is also offered. Subscriptions can be paused and resumed at any time without notice.

Pricing note: The $19 figure appearing in some older listings is incorrect. Individual reports are currently $47.
