Where tools like Kit and MailerLite optimize for feature depth, Flodesk optimizes for visual output — its drag-and-drop template library produces genuinely beautiful emails that match the aesthetic standards fiction and romance authors apply to their cover art. It has built a loyal following in that community specifically because the emails it produces look professionally designed without any coding.

Critical pricing update (December 2, 2025): Flodesk retired its flat-rate unlimited plan. New subscribers now pay tiered pricing that scales with list size. Customers who signed up before December 2025 remain grandfathered in at their original rate permanently. For new accounts, the pricing structure now mirrors competitors like MailerLite and Kit.

Free plan (added 2026): Flodesk introduced a permanent free plan that includes forms, landing pages, "Link in bio" pages, segmentation, and template access — but it does NOT include email sending. To actually send campaigns, authors need a paid plan or the 14-day free trial. The free plan functions as a list-capture and landing-page tool, not a working ESP.

Flodesk auto-upgrades accounts when active subscriber counts cross a tier boundary — monthly plans upgrade at the next billing date, annual plans upgrade mid-term on a prorated basis. Notifications are sent at 90%, 95%, and 100% of limits.

Automation#

Flodesk remains the right choice for authors who make visual brand presentation a priority and have lists under 5K subscribers — but the pricing change has narrowed the pool for whom it is clearly the best value option.
