The Blue Board — What It Actually Does#

ProZ's Blue Board is commonly misunderstood. It rates outsourcers (companies and individuals who hire translators) based on translator feedback — it measures whether a client pays on time and is professional to work with. It does not rate translators for authors to evaluate. To vet a translator, use their profile credentials, KudoZ history, portfolio samples, and references from prior clients.

Limitations#

• No escrow: Unlike Reedsy (milestone-based) or Upwork (Escrow.com integration), ProZ has no payment protection mechanism. Payment terms, contracts, and financial risk management are entirely the author's responsibility.
• No contract templates: Authors must source or draft their own translation agreements. Disputes go outside the platform.
• No vetting: The Literary Translators Pool is application-based but not editorially curated to the level of Reedsy's 3% acceptance rate. Quality varies widely across the broader 1.7M+ membership.
• Curated pool gated behind Business Plus: Viewing every translator in the Literary Translators Pool and bulk-messaging them (one message to up to 200 providers at once) is a paid Business Plus member feature. Free authors can still search the open translator directory, filter by Literature/Poetry specialization, and post a job to reach the same translators — so the curated-pool gate is a convenience limit, not a barrier to free hiring.
• Scam job postings: Trustpilot reviews from translators cite fraudulent postings and non-paying clients — authors should expect some low-quality proposals among genuine ones.
