Editor’s pick in the Self-Publish for Under $300 — Starting at $20/year for reader magnet delivery to build your mailing list

Strengths
- Reader-facing reliability: BookFunnel's delivery pages and reader app are polished. The support team resolves reader delivery issues directly, removing this burden from authors entirely.
- Broad device support: Delivers device-specific file formats to Kindle, Kobo, Apple Books, Nook, and reading apps.
- Flexible use cases: Covers reader magnets, ARCs, group promos, direct fulfillment, crowdfunding rewards, and event signings in one platform rather than needing separate tools.
Limitations
- No existing reader database: BookFunnel handles delivery — not discovery. You bring the readers to your landing page. The platform has no audience of its own.
- Entry tier is delivery-only: The $30/year plan collects no email addresses, integrates with no mailing list, and cannot fulfill direct sales — which rules it out for the two things most authors buy BookFunnel for. The functional minimum for list-building or selling direct is Mid-List at $200/year, a significant step up. Audiobook delivery costs extra on top of any plan.
- Mailing list integrations are capped: 4 lists on Mid-List, 6 on Bestseller. Only the Publisher plans are unlimited.
- Group promo results vary widely: Cross-promotions are participation-based; strong results require finding active co-authors with engaged lists.
BookFunnel handles the technical side of getting ebooks into readers' hands — whether you're building a mailing list with a free reader magnet, distributing ARCs to reviewers, participating in group promotions, or fulfilling ebook orders from a direct sales store. One subscription covers all four use cases.
What You Get
- Reader magnet delivery: Send free ebooks to new email subscribers via customizable landing pages. BookFunnel delivers the file to any device or reading app and handles reader tech support 365 days a year — so you never have to troubleshoot Kindle or Kobo delivery problems yourself.
- ARC distribution: Certified Mail creates non-shareable, trackable download links for advance reader copies. Each reviewer gets a unique link; authors control expiration dates and download limits.
- Group promotions and author swaps: Join genre-based multi-author promotions where participating authors cross-promote each other's books to grow subscriber lists. Results depend on the promotional effort of co-authors. One-to-one author swaps are available on every plan, including the entry tier.
- Direct sales fulfillment: Automatically delivers watermarked EPUB files after purchase, integrating with 11 storefronts including Shopify, WooCommerce, Payhip, Gumroad, Stripe, Lemon Squeezy, SamCart, and Square.
- Bonus and multimedia content: Since April 2026, Multimedia Uploads delivers files up to 300 MB — maps, character art, workbooks, coloring pages, wallpapers, and video — alongside the book. Video uploads require the Bestseller plan; other media types need Mid-List or above.
- Crowdfunding and in-person delivery: A BackerKit integration (launched April 28, 2026) delivers reward bundles the moment a backer pledges, follows, or reserves. Printable download codes let you hand out ebooks on postcards or bookmarks at conferences and signings.
- Digital ebook signing: Launched in beta in late 2025, this lets you sign ebooks for readers at in-person events, livestreams, and virtual launches; the reader receives a personalized copy with your signature and a custom message.
Pricing
Plans last changed February 20, 2026 and are unchanged as of August 2026. Existing customers can keep their current pricing indefinitely.
- First-Time Author ($30/year, annual billing only): 500 downloads/month, 1 pen name. Includes landing pages, custom domains and themes, group promos, and author swaps. No email collection, no mailing list integration, no ARC delivery, and no direct sales delivery — this tier delivers files, it does not build a list.
- Mid-List ($200/year, or $20/month): 5,000 downloads/month, up to 4 pen names, integration with up to 4 mailing lists (17+ services supported, including Mailchimp, Kit, MailerLite, ActiveCampaign, Klaviyo, Brevo, AWeber, and EmailOctopus). Adds email collection, secure ARC delivery, direct sales delivery, watermarked files, book gifting, print codes, ebook signing, and short audio. The practical minimum for serious list-building.
- Bestseller ($300/year, or $30/month): Unlimited downloads, up to 6 pen names, up to 6 mailing list integrations, priority support. Adds video uploads and API access — which the BackerKit integration requires.
- Audiobook delivery: A separate add-on, not included in any base plan. Options: usage-based ($20/year + $0.04/delivered hour), 5,000 DHA ($100/year, then $0.03/hour), 10,000 DHA ($200/year, then $0.02/hour), or Unlimited ($300/year). Short audio clips are included on Mid-List and above without the add-on.
- Publisher plans are priced separately for "publishers, promoters, and services that distribute books by other authors": Micro-Publisher $400/year (10 author names, 5,000 downloads/month), Low-Volume $1,000/year (20 names, 25,000/month), High-Volume $3,000/year (unlimited names, 50,000/month), all with unlimited mailing list integrations. Relevant to an indie author only if you run more than the 6 pen names the individual plans cap at.
30-day money-back guarantee applies to all plans.
