KBoards Writers' Cafe was the original home of the indie author community. Founded in 2007 by Harvey Chute as KindleBoards, it became the dominant gathering place for self-published authors navigating Amazon KDP during the ebook gold rush years of 2010–2016. The forum accumulated 2.1 million posts and 244 million views — a searchable archive of indie publishing strategy, KDP experiments, pricing debates, and marketing tactics that predates most of today's Facebook groups and podcasts.

History and Ownership Change#

Harvey Chute died before the 2018 sale; his family continued managing the forum until August 2018, when Mrs. Chute sold KBoards to VerticalScope, a Toronto-based forum conglomerate. The acquisition caused significant community backlash. VerticalScope inserted VigLink in-text advertising into user posts (random words became commercial links) and updated the Terms of Service to grant VerticalScope the right to use user-generated content — including usernames — across all its properties for marketing purposes. Many active members departed for emerging alternatives.
