Calli is an influencer marketing platform built exclusively for romance authors, connecting them with pre-vetted BookTok and Bookstagram content creators. Launched in May 2025 by founder Katelyn Ilkani, the platform handles campaign briefs, contracts, and payments in one place — removing the cold-outreach process that exposes authors to wasted spend and influencer scams.

How It Works#

Authors upload their book cover, blurb, genre, and tropes, then set campaign objectives (awareness, social growth, or sales) and browse influencers filtered by follower count and specialty. Both gifted (book copy only) and paid posts are supported. After posting, influencers submit performance metrics — views and engagement — to the author's dashboard.

Calli recommends the "1% rule" for pricing paid posts: pay influencers roughly 1% of their follower count in dollars per post. For a 10,000-follower account, that is approximately $100. This is calibrated to publishing's thinner margins compared to fashion or beauty influencer campaigns, where the norm is closer to 4%.

Important: Human First Policy#

Since August 1, 2025, Calli enforces a strict Human First Policy:

• Books written or co-written using AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Sudowrite) are not permitted
• Covers generated with AI image tools (Midjourney, DALL-E, Leonardo) are not permitted
• AI-assisted design tools (Photoshop, Canva) remain permitted

Authors who use AI writing or image tools in their workflow will be rejected from the platform. This is a firm, stated policy — not a soft guideline.

Limitations#

• Romance only as of early 2026: Expansion to thriller, fantasy, sci-fi, mystery, and women's fiction was announced as a 2026 target but has not been confirmed as live
• Very new platform: Launched May 2025 — approximately 250+ campaigns facilitated as of mid-2025; no independent author reviews exist to cite; the one published case study (Ashley Zavarelli / Boston Underworld, tripled royalties) appears in a profile piece, not a third-party review
• No guaranteed results: Influencer reach does not directly translate to sales; BookTok audiences engage more readily with romance and romantasy than other genres
• AI policy excludes a growing author segment: Strictly applies to both writing and cover generation
